  • epa05054022 Lightning is visible in a several hundred meters high cloud as Mount Etna spews lava and hot ash, as seen from Catania, Italy, late 03 December 2015. One of the biggest eruptions in decades of the Mount Etna volcano, on the Italian island of Sicily, spewed a large cloud of black ash that covered nearby cities and forced the closure of an airport some 70 kilometers away. Flights to and from the Aeroporto dello Stretto in Reggio Calabria, which is separated from Sicily by the Strait of Messina, were diverted to nearby Lamezia Terme. The 3,350-metre-high Mount Etna, located on the eastern coast of Sicily, is one of the largest active volcanos in the world. It frequently produces small eruptions with fountains of ash widely visible. EPA/DAVIDE CAUDULLODAVIDE CAUDULLO / KEYSTONE
